Losing both his family and his ties to the military men and women he used to call boy and friend, Kole felt he had nothing left to live for. He went on a spree of self-destruction, spending his days and nights recklessly engaged in excessive smelling, fighting, and whoring, hoping that someone or something would come along and put him out of his misery.

On one particular sotted night, while in a seedy red light district somewhere on Earth, Kole came across a marquee advertising a sexual experience with an artificial intelligence life-form dubbed "Caerulia". Coincidentally, the name of the AI happened to be the same name of the terraformed planet that Kole's wife and girl were headed to when their transport was attacked and destroyed.
